Welcome to Old Bakery Studios, an independent and innovative creative space at Blewett's Wharf, next to BBC Radio Cornwall, in the Riverside District of Truro.
Based in the historic Blewett's Bakery, at the point of where the Truro Rivers merge, are over 60 unique studios and workspaces, housing an eclectic mix of small businesses, artists and entrepreneurs. There's a great atmosphere in the studios and it's a great place to work, unusual in that many different professions are rubbing shoulders with each other.
To see who's here, check out our 'Who's here' page. We don't actively advertise the spaces (they're full with a waiting list!) but it's always worth getting in touch to check current availability and to give us an idea of your requirements.
Additionally, our ex-factory ground floor has been successfully growing it's own reputation, as a multipurpose arts space.
In 2017 we hosted the following:
As One Talks / Winter Art Exhibition / Hosted by MC Claire Rowley, our Comedy Cupboards (comedy club format with cosy club bistro seating) featuring Murray Lachlyn Young (BBC Radio 6), David Arnold, Richard James, Rob Barrett, Harriet Dyer, Graham Wilkes, Brendan Burns / Record Store Day Gig in collaboration with Truro College and Music Nostalgia / scratch dance pieces / Rock night with Sanguine, King Creature and Cybernetic Witch Cult / our first Silent Disco / Skinny Living / Questions on Cornish Stuff panel debate / Public Speaking Workshops / fringe theatre including Richard III A One Woman Show / AutumnFest in collaboration with Truro College, Gaz Brookfield, 3 Daft Monkeys / Wildwood Kin plus Sam Green and The Manuka Project, curtesy of SW1 Productions / Olive Haigh, Annie E.E.L and The Worm / Bluetone Mark Morriss entertained us with support from comedian MJ Walker / Jo Harman
For 2018 please see our website and lively Facebook feed for up-to-date information.
Our events have been well attended by all ages, and 'it's just what Truro needs' has been said many times.
We're growing quickly, not least because of how generous many people have been with their time resources and expertise - it's become a bit of a community effort so thank you to everyone involved.
Work continues on our 'underground bar' and there are exciting plans in the pipeline, thanks to St Austell Brewery.
We are collaborating with many, not least with The Hammond Marketing Agency, The Unique Cornish Event Company, JamX Management, Cornish Underground Sound, Carn To Cove Rural Touring Scheme, Sing Truro Contemporary Community Choir, who are all being a fantastic help to this exciting regeneration of a Cornish and Truro landmark building.
Do take a look at our What's On page or Facebook to see all that we have on offer. We look forward to seeing you here soon!
