“I was utterly blown away by these guys. Exquisite musicianship. My gig of the year.” – Ralph McTell following last year's performance by Damien and Ron at The Old Bakery.
“Both are incredibly acclaimed musicians..” – Mark Radcliffe BBC RADIO 2.
Banjo players extraordinaire Damien O'Kane and Ron Block return to The Old Bakery following the triumph of their appearance in 2018. Their recently released album Banjophony received rave write ups, these 2 players take the banjo places you'd never have imagined! Damien is oft seen playing banjo & guitar with Kate Rusby's acclaimed band and Ron Block similarly with US country superstar Alison Krauss.
“We coined the phrase ‘Banjophony’ meaning the wondrous sounds of the banjo and decided that described the album well. What that means lies within the virtuosity and beauty of the music”. A union of transatlantic cultures, Banjophony melds two different styles and approaches to the banjo to captivating effect. Every note is precise and in exactly the
right place, rising and falling with ‘question and answer’ picking and plucking, the light perfectly balanced by the shade – the musicians demonstrating high level connectivity and empathy.
The album was made Album of The Month in The Guardian back in July 2018.
This will be a fabulous night of stunning musicianship. The concert will be seated.
Tickets £17.50 in advance.
