Daytoner’s unique 6 piece line-up of baritone sax, keys, bass, drums and DJ is fronted by the soul powerhouse that is Lucy Richards, who delivers a journey through funk, northern soul, swing, latin & ska breaks from hip-hop to jump up tempo, with the musicians flipping the familiar DJs samples live, to make new tracks from vintage parts.
In Summer, Daytoner released their debut band LP ‘Off The Hook’ and the first single from it, ‘Needed You’, received heavy rotation on BBC 6 Music and BBC Introducing including BBC Radio One. Further support came from Chris Hawkins who played ‘I Get By’ repeatedly on BBC 6’s Early Breakfast show calling it “a sublime revision of a classic” and Moss supplied Craig Charles 30 minute ‘Trunk of Funk’ mix in July on return from a riotous live show at Kendal Calling. Indeed, the band have taken the album tracks to 8 festivals this summer including Shindig, BST Hyde Park, The Great Estate, Kendal Calling, Boomtown Fair & Green Man along with a celebratory album launch with friends & family in St Ives Guildhall back in June.
Support for the LP has flooded in with monkeyboxing.com awarding 5 stars & Juno Records said “it’s not called Off The Hook for nothing”. Tracks from the album currently appear in the DJ charts of Craig Charles, Voodoocuts, The Allergies and the Juno Records Recommended Soul chart with further support from funk, soul and breaks DJs worldwide.
